About school

23 May 2013

Dear Parents / Carers,

There have been some enquiries about the Talent Show on Friday; please note that this is for the children only. I regret to say that we have no space in the hall to invite parents/ carers as the whole school will be watching the show.

Dear Parents / Carers of Year 6,

I have been in contact with Mrs Branagan, and the children are having a lovely time. They were at the French school yesterday and are at the cathedral in Rouen today. They are due to go shopping this afternoon, so no doubt there will be a few empty purses later.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Please join us on Friday (24th May) for a whole school Mass as we celebrate St Philip's Day. The Friends Association invite you to join us for tea and coffee in the school hall after Mass.

During the day, the children will enjoy a carousel of activities and a talent show.

A child at St Philip’s Catholic Primary school has been confirmed as having measles. We have had advice from the Health Protection Team as below:

Measles can be serious, particularly for babies under one year old, pregnant women and people whose immune system is not working normally. Measles spreads very easily but can be prevented by immunisation.

  • If your child has measles please keep them away from school and other people for four days after the day the rash starts. This is so they do not pass the disease to others.
  • If you need to see your doctor, please telephone before going to the surgery to avoid passing the disease to others in the waiting room.
  • Pregnant women, babies under one year old and people with compromised immunity need prompt medical advice if they have been in contact with someone who has measles. Please phone your GP or the Health Protection Team (0845 894 2944) for more information. Treatment may be available to prevent measles but needs to be given within days.
  • MMR is safe and works very well to prevent measles. A dose at 13 months and a second dose at three and a half years old are needed for the best protection. If your child has not had these, it is not too late - you can ring your GP surgery to arrange this.

First Holy Communion

Congratulations to Phoebe, John, Zac, Sophia, Shafia, Conor, Chloe and Joseph who celebrated their First Communion. Also to Joshua who will celebrate his in India later in the year. Well done to siblings and friends who came to help them celebrate; their behaviour and participation made us proud. A special well done to Iris who read so well.

May Fair

Thanks to the school and parish community who supported our summer fair; it was a lovely event in spite of the windy weather. For those who missed out on the photobooth, I am told it will be back at the summer BBQ towards the end of the academic year. Many, many thanks to Carine Roberts who planned and organised this great event.
