Dear St Philip’s Families,

It has been a busy two weeks here at St Philip’s and everyone has been working hard and having fun.

We have welcomed Mrs Hughes in Year 3. I know she has lots of exciting plans to enhance the children’s learning experience. We have also welcomed Mia and Sofia in Year 1 and hope they and their family have a happy and enjoyable time at St Philip’s. I am sure you will all give them a very warm welcome into our school community.

Growth Mindset

This week we have focused on the learning quality of ‘good listening’. It has been wonderful to have had so many children sent to me this week for head teacher stickers because of their great listening skills. Next week we will be focusing on ‘working together and working hard.’

The school is also involved in a Shirley Clarke project. Shirley Clarke is nationally renowned education consultant who has lots of practical ideas for putting the Growth Mindset theory into practise. We are very lucky to be involved in this project and look forward to the positive benefits it will have on children’s learning and progress.

Friends of St Philip’s

Thank you to all the parents who attended the recent Friends’ meeting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a good turnout in any school I’ve ever worked in! Do take a look at the Friends’ calendar of events on our website as they have some really exciting events planned for the school.

Inset Days

Please note that our last Inset days this year will be on Friday 22nd May and Monday 22nd June.

PE

After winning the first round of the Indoor Athletics, children from year 6 qualified to represent Uckfield in the final. Although we didn’t win on overall points, the children all had a great time and won lots of individual events. They represented our school exceptionally well. Thank you to Miss Fisher for organising this and accompanying the children.

Art

We will be taking part in The Bridge Cottage Art Mural Project. Along with other schools from Uckfield we will be designing and painting a mural to represent the school and to link in with the Charleston Festival. The board will be displayed outside Bridge Cottage until the refurbishment is finished. Thank you to Mrs McNally for taking the opportunity to involve St Philip’s in this very exciting project.

Governor News ‐ Parent Survey Update

Many thanks to all parents and carers who completed the parent survey last term. The analysis shows over 90% of all responses were positive towards the school. The full results have been published on the school website under Parents Information.

As a governing body, we continuously strive to deliver the highest possible educational experience for all our pupils and your feedback plays an important part in shaping the school's future improvement plans.

St Philip's Governing Body

Induction Mass

Please note the change of dates – this will now take place during the 9.30 Mass on Sunday 1st March.

Uniform

Most of the children look very smart in their uniform. A few children are coming to school wearing trainers and nail varnish and we would like to remind you that this is not appropriate for school.

Winter Weather Arrangements

In the event of extreme weather conditions it is possible that the school may well be closed for that day; this is obviously a carefully considered decision, based on safety considerations for the children. We will endeavour to remain open but if we need to close, the usual announcements will be made by 7.30am and the school closure information will be available on the county and school websites shortly after this time. Local radio stations will also be informed.

You can register with East Sussex to receive an email alert should a closure notice be made for St Philip’s. To do this use the link below

http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/s chools/schoolclosurealerts.htm

We will make every effort to keep the school open but sometimes it is not possible given the difficulties of getting staff and children to and from school safely.

We would be very gratful if we could have volunteers in place for snow clearance duties if and when snow arrives. This will ensure that paths to the school can be cleared so that the school can remain open. Please contact the Office if you are able to help in this way and are willing to be contacted by Andy as and when the need arises. Thanking you in anticipation.

With very best wishes

Joanna Sanchez
