Dear St Philip’s Families,
Yesterday we held our Lenten Service of Reconciliation. This was followed by opportunities for individual reconciliations. Do remember to look at your Lenten calendars as we move closer to Easter. Next week, I look forward to welcoming many of you to our KS1 Liturgy and the Stations of the Cross.
We have introduced a times Table Challenge to St Philip’s. Children in KS2 will receive a times table card. They gain the bronze award by learning to say the tables, the silver award by being able to answer random multiplication facts, eg 5x6 and the gold award by answering random division facts eg 81/9. When children have completed their card, they can come to me for a random test. If they pass, they receive a maths set and can enter our Times Tables Hall of Fame. It would be great if parents could help their children to learn their tables, as this knowledge underpins a lot of the mathematics children do in school.
Congratulations to our Rugby players who won the local tournament this week. They did really well, beating nine other schools to become overall champions – a great result!
Friends of St Philip’s
It was lovely to see all the Mother’s Day Candles displayed for the children to buy for their mums. Thank you to the Friends for organising this event and I hope all mums had a lovely day.
Please can we remind parents not to drive up the driveway to drop their children off at the school office as this makes it difficult for us to keep our children safe. If you have a disability please talk to us about arranging safe access.
Although the eclipse was obscured by cloud, it was a very strange to experience the world turning eerily darker and colder, the sheep lying down and the birds stop singing. I am looking forward to reading the stories the children have written about when the world turned dark, the best of which will be published on the school website.
Congratulations to ...
Sophia, Sienna and Lucy in Year 5 who raised £30 for charity, selling handmade pictures.
George, Freddie and Max in Year 4 who came 2nd at the East Sussex Rugby Festival.
I would like to end by saying a big thank you to Mrs Joyce who has served three terms as staff Governor and has been on our Governing Body since 2009. The Governors of St Philip’s do a fantastic job supporting the school and we are very grateful for their time and commitment.
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend.
School Meals and Parent Pay
Please can we remind you to check your account weekly and tick your child’s name for the day that they wish to have a meal? Please also keep your account in credit. This will save the kitchen and office staff time.
If your child has been prescribed any medicines these should be left in the school office. Once a medicine form has been completed the office staff will be able to administer the prescribed medicine. Unfortunately in line with ESCC policy, we are unable to administer un- prescribed medicines. Please do not send your child in with any medicines without speaking to the school office first.
Please help us to contain any spread of illness by adhering to the 48 hours absence following any vomiting or diarrhoea episodes.
