Dear St Philip’s families,
It was wonderful to be part of so many of our children’s First Holy Communion over the Bank Holiday Weekend. It was an incredibly joyous occasion and the children looked radiant on their very special day.
Year 6 helped us all to learn about Democracy by ably leading us in our school Election on May 7th. St Philip’s mirrored the national result with the conservatives winning. It was great that the election was followed by VE day, as in assembly the children had a chance to reflect on Democracy, what it means for us and how much others have sacrificed that we may have freedom today.
We were visited by CAFOD who told us about the terrible Earthquake in Nepal. The children were inspired to raise money for the Nepalese people and suggested covering an outline of the Himalayas on the playground with small change. Thank you to everyone for their generosity.
This week Year 6 sat their SATs tests. Their hard working and mature attitude at this time has been a credit to them and I wish them every success.
Congratulations to Year 6 who came second in the Uckfield Hockey tournament this week. They played brilliantly! Thank you, also, to Mrs Hughes who stepped in to make this possible.
Next Wednesday, we have our football and netball tournament on the field, when we will be visited by many other local Catholic schools. Let’s all hope the weather is good!
On Thursday, we will be celebrating St Philip’s Day with a host of exciting activities when we will also be joined by our visitors from France, in advance of our French reunion in the evening.
Please pray for our families who are bereaved at this time.
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend.
Please could we have some volunteers to help with the Goblin car in Y6? It is impossible to run this event without help and it would be a shame if we couldn’t take part this year.
If you want someone else to collect your child, please could you write a note for the class teacher. If it is a last minute arrangement, please phone the office. This will help us to keep our children safe.
Just a reminder that children should now be coming to school in summer uniform.
BOYS – grey shorts or trousers, white polo shirt, grey or black socks. GIRLS – bottle green and white striped or checked summer dress, white socks. Yr 5 and 6 girls may wear a green skirt and polo shirt. Shoes: please note that during warmer weather children’s feet need to be enclosed within sandals (not open or strappy).
School Uniform Shop
This will now be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8.30 – 9.00am. If these times are not suitable please send an order form in with cash or cheque to the school office.
E-Safety Workshop for parents.
Do you know how to keep your children safe online? Come along to our free E-safety workshop and find out. John Khan from Anti-Bullying Works will be holding an Esafety workshop for parents at St Philip's on Thursday 11th of June at 9.00am, this should last approximately 90 minutes.
All parents/carers are welcome to attend.
Please hand in any vouchers you may have at home to the school office as soon as possible.
