Dear St Philip’s Families,
I hope you all had a good summer, despite the rather autumnal weather at times. It is good to be back in school and lovely to welcome the children and hear all their news. They have made an excellent start and I anticipate a happy and successful new academic year. A big welcome to all the new children and their families who have joined us this year, including our new Reception children. We also welcome Andre in Year 1, Laurence in Year 2, Reece and Saviann in Y3, Kye in Y4, Rowan and Maddy in Year 5 and Zak in Y6. In addition, I would like to officially welcome Mr Finch to St. Philip’s as Year 4 teacher. I wish them all happiness and success at St. Philip’s.
I have been impressed by the way that the children have settled to their work and the good learning which is taking place. I do hope your child has been telling you about the topics they are working on this term. Class teachers are holding ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings for parents from 21st September. They will take place in your child’s classroom at 3.30. A crèche will be provided for younger siblings. If you are unable to come to the meeting, your child will bring home the Curriculum Guide and the letter outlining RE which will be covered this term.
The children have returned to school looking very smart in their school uniform. Thank you for supporting our uniform policy. Children may wear plimsolls for PE; older children may choose to wear trainers. Please can you ensure that children only bring trainers with laces when they are able to tie them themselves. Thank you for your help in this matter.
We are holding a Maths Workshop for parents on Thursday 19th November at 3.30. Please do come along and learn about how maths is taught at school and how you can help to support your child at home.
Friends’ AGM – please note change of date
This will take place at 7.00 on Tuesday 22nd September in the hall. Do come along and find out about all the amazing events the Friends organise and how you can get involved – any small amount of help is very much appreciated.
The Friend’s will be holding a coffee morning for reception parents on Monday 14th September at 9.00 in the hall. Thank you to the Friends for organising this. I look forward to meeting many of our new parents at this event.
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend
Term time absence
You are probably aware that central government changed the regulations on term time holidays and that headteachers are now no longer able to authorise holidays. If your child is going to be absent from school for reasons other than illness or medical appointments, please can you fill in an absence form (available from the office or on our website) and return to the office.
Henri in Y6 has decided to raise some money for a Charity called Kids for Kids. The charity provides chickens, goats, donkeys and water wells and has trained 140 midwives to support 78 villages in one of the most dangerous places in the world.
Henri wants to try and raise £500 for the charity. On 27th September Henri with his best friend Lewis is going to run the children's 1 mile tough Mudder course in Winchester as a sponsored event and then he wants to be sponsored to have his head shaved ( very brave as he is terrified of the hairdressers!)
Break time snacks
Please can you remember that snacks brought into school need to be healthy and that only water should be in water bottles that are brought into class. (This does not apply to lunchtime drinks).
Please can you ensure that all your children’s clothing, lunchboxes and especially purses are all named clearly.
We were left with four black sacks full of unnamed items at the end of last term.
Year 6 Parents
Each child in Year 6 was given a leaflet titled ‘Going up to Secondary School?’ If your child is in Year 6 you must apply by 31st October 2015.
